SOMA Summer is a unique six-week program for visual artists conducted in English in Mexico City.

SOMA Summer offers a series of short seminars and workshops led by a selection of renowned Mexican and international artists. Participants have also the possibility of meeting weekly with a variety of artists and curators for individual critiques. Activities are designed to promote intense creative work and artistic dialogue.

SOMA Summer will introduce participants to the very dynamic art scene in Mexico City. A number of visits to museums and artists studios are scheduled. At the end of the program, participants will show their work in an open studio event.

SOMA is a space for reconsideration and reflection, where participants have the opportunity to critically analyze their work and where revisiting the creative processes is encouraged. SOMA facilities consist of shared working spaces. No access to labs or workshop is available. Nevertheless, we provide logistic support for producing work within the immense resources of DF. This six-week intensive program culminates in an open studio/lecture event. Applicants must have significant experience in their field. They are expected to participate in all of the program’s activities.

Application Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate significant experience in their field. They are expected to participate in all of the program’s activities. The size of the group is limited to twenty five participants. Applicants must hold a valid passport. Application deadline: Online applications will be accepted until Monday April 01st, 2013. However, the size of the group is limited to twenty-five participants. The application review process will begin Friday March 01st, 2013.

Tuition and Housing

Tuition is $ 3,250 USD for the six-week program, which does not include accommodations, per diem or transportation. $5,500 USD is a reasonable total budget approximation for the six-week stay in Mexico City (tuition, housing, food, recreation, transportation).
