Ghazaleh Avarzamani (b. 1980, Tehran) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her background combines an MFA from Central Saint Martins, an MA in Painting from Tehran Azad University and a Diploma in Graphic Design. Throughout her practice she has been researching diverse subjects and cultivating a conceptual vocabulary to develop her career. Her practice encompasses a variety of forms, including fabric works, embroidery, sculpture, installation, video and photography. The craft dimension of her work is combined with research that seeks to discover the socio-historical relevance of these disciplines, as it reflects on her own experience and larger cultural issues. Her subjects of research have
especially emerged from an interest in manipulation and manifestations of global powers, history, geography and knowledge. She is presenting the results of her research and practice in the form of exhibitions and lectures, nationally and internationally.Her selected exhibitions include Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium museum in Norway; Bocconi Gallery in Italy; Ab/Anbar Gallery in Iran; Asia House in the UK; Etemad Gallery in UAE; and Artmark gallery in Austria. She has been the recipient of Toronto Art Council in 2018, Ontario Art Council award in 2017 and the Red Mansion Art Prize in 2013.
