Joaquín Segura

Joaquín Segura (Mexico City, 1980) produces installations, photography, and video. His works have been exhibited extensively in solo and group shows in Mexico, the USA and various countries in Europe and Asia. Specific venues include Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, La Panadería, and Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico City; Anthology Film Archives, White Box, and Apexart in New York; LAXART and MOLAA in Los Angeles; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; and Contemporary Art Museum in Denver. Between 2008 and 2015, Segura has participated in residences involving production and investigation at the International Studio & Curatorial Program, New York; Hangar-Centre de producció y recerca d’arts visuals, Barcelona; Meet Factory-International Centre of Contemporary Art, Prague; and Casa Wabi, Puerto Escondido, among others. Segura’s work is diverse and meditates upon contradictions regarding power, the failure of liberation ideologies, the instrumentalization of radical ideology and the permanent state of crisis in the grand sociopolitical structures. Segura is a member of SOMA’s Artist Council.
