Luis Vargas Santiago
Mexico City-based art historian and curator. He received his PhD, master’s and bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and the Universidad Cristóbal Colón, respectively. His work discusses the intersections of nationalism, race, gender, and religiosity in the modern and contemporary art of Latin America and U.S Latino cultures. His research has received support from various institutions and programs such as the Smithsonian Institution, the Terra Foundation in American Art, the Fulbright-Garcia Robles Program, Mexico’s Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, and the University of Essex. He is a member of SNI-Mexico's National System of Researchers.
