Peter Kingstone is a Toronto-based visual artist and curator, working primarily in video and photography. As an independent artist, his installation pieces have been shown across Canada and internationally, and have been awarded the Untitled Artist Award in 2005 for his installation The Strange Case of Peter K. (1974-2004). He holds a degree in Philosophy/Cultural Studies from Trent University in Peterborough and a Masters of Fine Art focusing on video and new media from York University in Toronto. He has presented at many conferences on the ideas around storytelling and social engagement. He is the Visual and Media Arts Program Manager at the Toronto Arts Council. His relationship and work in the artistic community is why I was asked to work for the council. The TAC is an arm’s length funding entity for the City of Toronto funding individual artists, projects and galleries. His role is helping artists think through what they are making so that they can apply for funding. These conversations, learning how projects come together and what fellow artists are thinking are highly engaging and the best part of the position.
