The work of Tania Candiani (1974) has developed in various media and artistic practices that retain a special interest in complex intersections between languages systems -phonic, graphic, linguistic, symbolic and technological. Within the work of Candiani exists certain nostalgia for the obsolete that seeks to make explicit the discursive content within symbols, artifacts, and textual materials.
Through the exploration of elements, such as sound, words, machines diagrams, Candiani recreates a unique translation that enhances the possibilities of language, generating several combinations of meaning and expression. In recent years, she has collaborated with different interdisciplinary groups in various fields of knowledge, consolidating intersections between art, design, literature, architecture and science. From these collaborations, she explores the possibilities of technology, research over time, sound and configurations with regard to narrative. In her work, we can appreciate the materialization of the artist´s reflections on technical and scientific subjects, as well as our relationship with technology and the history behind it for the production of knowledge. With and extensive experience in Mexico and internationally, she is fellow of the National System of Art Creators, FONCA, Mexico (2012-2014; 2017-2019), and has received several awards, such as the Guggenheim Fellowship Award (2011); Production Award, Fonoteca Nacional, Mexico City (2012); Production Award, Bancomer Cultural Foundation (2013), Award of Distinction Prix Ars Electronica, Austria (2013); Flora Ars Natura, Production Residency, Colombia (2013); Production Residency, Artium, Spain (2013); Artist in Residence. Laznia II, Poland (2014); Artist in Residence, Glennfiddich, Scotland (2014), among others.
Tania Candiani represented Mexico at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015, with the project Possessing Nature, in collaboration with Luis Felipe Ortega. Recently, she has received an Artist Research Fellowship at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC, USA (2017).
