Virginia Ariu (1992) was born in Turin, Italy. She lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland. Graduated with a Bachelor in Painting from Albertina Fine Arts Academy in Turin, she is now attending the Master of Visual Arts at ECAL. Her work ranges over different medias, such as installations, drawings, sculptures, readymades, photography, writings and collages, that reflect her interest on several themes. Among many issues, she questions in particular the definition of identity, the notions of accessibility, vulnerability, discomfort and transition, testing the limits between private and collective spheres, reality and fiction, facts and myths. Her works present irrational, uncontrollable circumstances and incomplete narratives that can innescate a process of disorientation or a shift of viewpoint on the viewer, a dynamic that is also exemplified by her choice of using a different media each time.
